After a very busy summer we at Classical Stretch are returning to our normal winter pace of being really, really busy!!! As you must know Classical Stretch is a young, growing company so this insane pace is healthy and inevitable. When I say young company, I am referring to the age of the company and not myself. Talking about young, the other members of the company happen to be young which is a good thing considering the demands put on them!
On the subject of aging, I have to say that I am beginning to look upon aging completely differently than I did a few years ago. Over the years I have been watching with dread as the years pass waiting for the disaster of old age to hit; so far it hasn’t. That has made me rethink my attitude towards aging. We are such a shallow society and judge each other on the number of years we have lived rather than the reality of the individual person.
Truth is that I don’t feel or act old at all, so why should I be judging myself against an irrelevant number! A year ago I changed my diet and became a vegan. As a vegan I lost a few pounds, and my energy went even higher than previously. The only inevitable aging issue that I cannot get rid of with a good diet and exercise are the wrinkles on my face! Oh well, we cannot win it all.

Lately I have been introspective about the subject of aging and am starting to think that we look at it all wrong. We are blinded by the concept of the number of years a person has lived so we miss the reality of aging. I feel we encourage the negatives of aging, which almost leads to a self-filling prophesy for many of us. It is expected that we slow down as we age so we do; it is expected that we will develop poor posture so we let ourselves; it is expected that we will gain weight so we permit ourselves to gain a few extra pounds; it is expected that we will suffer from chronic pain so we accept it. We assume the worst is inevitable and so we let the worst happen to us.
Then I woke up one morning a few weeks ago and discovered that I was still young! Here is the issue: we have been victims of all the negative publicity about aging and we have fallen for it hook, line and sinker! What I have recently realised is that we have much more control over aging than we are led to believe. We cannot stop the inevitable of dying but we absolutely can control our personal process of aging.
Take each aging issue one at a time; problem weight gain, the solution is diet and exercise; problem chronic pain, the solution is exercise and weight control; problem, low energy, the solution is exercise and a healthy diet; problem poor posture, the solution is exercise; problem serious illnesses, the solution to prevent many serious illnesses like cancer and heart disease is exercise, weight control, and correct diet.

When it comes to the best anti-aging exercise program I know that Classical Stretch is number one. CS works all 620 muscles in the body stretching and strengthening them to keep them alive and functioning at their maximum. It is safe as no joints are being stressed and the speed of movements is controlled by muscle and not through momentum. It works to improve circulation which helps in the battle against heart disease.
When it comes to diet I suggest everyone read “The China Study” by Dr. Campbell. After reading the China Study, you can make up your own mind as to which type of diet will keep you young, thin and healthy.

January 7th to 13th -
Weight Reduction Retreat
Spa Eastman, Quebec, Canada
We are offering a winter weight reduction retreat at the beautiful Spa Eastman in January! This retreat is our first serious weight reduction retreat that I hope will leave participants feeling empowered the rest of their lives. It is aimed at making everyone kick-start a new way at looking at their health and lives. It will be educational and probably a little emotional as the issue of weight is so complex. We need to help each other; it’s time to stop judging, criticising and making people feel bad. So many over-weight people are desperate for a solution and yet feel helpless about making a permanent reversal of their weight problem.
This January Spa experience is aimed at changing the direction of their thinking to that of total belief in their ability to make the change without extreme dieting and exercise involved. I don’t believe in extremes and neither does Jocelyna Dube, owner of Spa Eastman. So between the two of us it will be a bit like a love-in; lots of support lots of understanding and no judging!

Spa Eastman is located on a 350 acre property with well miles of groomed walks through the mountainous forests which surround the hotel. Here is a fun email from a dad who is feeling younger with a little bit of CS

Dear Miranda/Classical Stretch,
I am so glad I found you on one of our local Public Broadcasting stations (KCSM).
I'm no athlete. I am a 51 year old telecommunications worker who is beginning to feel old, physically.
Miranda is so easy to watch and to follow. The routines are difficult sometimes but as someone once said "No pain, no gain."
My 9 year old daughter and I do your workouts together and we love it.
Thank you for helping me to feel better and feel younger.
Roy

Off and on for years, I've suffered from some back pain. I know am dealing with knee pain. I have worked up some "streches" from some of the rehab papers I've been given by Doctors. After only ONE SHOW this morning, I'm hooked. You put together all the things I've learned in such a way I felt like someone had just handed me a gift when I turned on your PBS show this morning. Thank you for making me feel like the exercising I've been trying to do IS going to help me to get back into a normal routen. Yes, I love to dance so my goal is to be able to dance again with little to no pain.

We have solidified dates for our teacher training workshops in Toronto, Montreal and Colorado. It is so exciting to be able to promote the technique in both Canada and the US.

Workshops for instructor training
We offer a very sophisticated distance learning program for people who wish to become instructors. The workshops are not obligatory to becoming instructors as all the testing is done through distance learning. However many instructors want to learn more and get live hands on feed back.
The three-day workshops include; master classes, seminars on techniques, objectives and basic exercises. These interactive workshops are motivating and inspiring as they re-enforce an instructor’s confidence, understanding and ability to teach. I have found that these workshops transform good instructors into great ones.
